A fashion blogger of Chinese origin born in Denver, Colorado first started her blog with a review of the ten best in the “Big Four” fashion weeks Spring/Summer 2010 in January, 2010. In the following month, she set up a fan page on Facebook reaching more than 4,000 followers today. Miao has lived a kind of nomadic lifestyle between Hong Kong and Taiwan, Taiwan and Perth, Perth and Europe and so on since she was a child. Her multicultural background has exposed her to various lifestyles and different attitudes towards fashion yet even strengthened her motherland ties and her pride in being Chinese. Having worked in visual merchandising and marketing for the brands such as Ralph Lauren and TSE New York, Miao was trained to have a good eye on fashion and luxury goods. She doesn’t believe fashion as an individual entity, it has got to be linked up with history and culture. Miao is especially keen on the design inspired by oriental aesthetics. She sees it kind of her mission to bring any talented Chinese/Asian designers to the world’s attention.
Realizing the blogging market is so over-saturated, which means fashion bloggers from all over the world are doing more or less the same thing. Miao, being conscious of her Chinese heritage, tends to make her blog unique and genuine by specializing herself in oriental-inspired fashion with eastern motifs cross-fertilizing western styles which brings an exotic feel to it. While most bloggers are keeping an eye on the traditional “Big Four” fashion cities in the West and craving for the latest news about Karl Lagerfeld, Miao is exploring the emerging fashion markets in the East and helps spread the word about the best up-and-coming designers from China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, etc. On top of that, La Mode by GV Miao provides a platform for fashionistas to comment on their favorite oriental/ethnic/folklore designs and express their views on fashion of an oriental theme. Followers are also welcome to leave words about what they think “orientalism” may possibly mean, and what necessary elements should be there to make it oriental fashion. Miao, in addition to being a keen admirer of the glitz and glamour of oriental style, celebrates antique and vintage fashion in her blog. What makes each historical piece special and appealing is the story behind them. It is indeed an interesting experience to feel like having gone through a nostalgia phase when blogging about vintage.
In ancient #China, the symbol of the #dragon represented the emperor’s imperial power and strength. In this #summer, the 5-clawed #dragon #motif can be found in #Emilio Pucci’s #shoes and #accessories #design majestifying its female wearers, as if to say #style is the ultimate power in the 21st century. Now watch us beautiful women fly!
New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 kicked off on September 6 and will end until the 13th. More than 50 designers collections have so far been showcased on the runway. My readers who know La Mode by GV Miao well should probably notice that I used to keep an eye on Vivienne Tam and Anna Sui’s shows only for New York Fashion Week review. But starting from Spring/Summer 2013, I’m adding the Japanese designer Tadashi Shogi to my favorite list, and I feel like I am obligated to share with the world his heavenly beautiful designs. Looking at Shogi’s Chinese paper-cutting art inspired collection, I can’t help but praise God for making such a designer who has a masterful sense of color, exquisite craftsmanship and a passion for intricate details and mixing the textures of fabrics as Shogi. His signature use of lace has developed an east meets west style which brings western elegance into oriental art.
Children/Teenage Fashion Show on the Last Day of Ukraine International Fashion Days 2012 (June 1) A beautiful and entertaining children/teenage fashion show rounded off Ukraine International Fashion Days 2012 as well as celebrated International Children’s Day on the first of June. International fashion events usually place less emphasis on childrenswear, yet the children’s fashion show at Ukraine IFDs featuring the most talented child and teen singers, dancers and models walking the runway like adults reminded us that children are the pillars of our world, the fashion stars of the future.
La Mode by GV Miao wishes all our dear followers and fashionista friends a beautiful Easter full of God’s love and grace and oriental glitz and glamor. 復活節快樂! (Happy Easter)
In addition to being beautiful as usual, Valentino Fall/Winter 2012 collection carries some interesting design details which drop a hint about the Fall/Winter fashion trends. On the runway, I saw lots of black and camel (the everlasting colors), the jumpsuit trend is gonna to last, and the Asian inspired fabric buttons are the key elements of the design. Do they suit your taste?
